Dilys Jackson’s works derive from a kinaesthetic relationship between land or plant forms and those of the human body. The sculpting of rock and earth by wind and water and the growth of plants are processes which have echoes in the growth and processes of bodily forms. The materials of which they are made have an intrinsic weight and presence, but there is also a sensation of their mass and contained spaces which derives from the perceived processes of growth or movement which appear to have formed them. Each work has formal elements of mass and division. They embody the dynamic balance between pressure of weight and the release of pressure between parts.
Jackson lives in Cardiff and works at the Butetown Artists Studios. She has travelled and worked across the world. She has had work in exhibitions in Wales, Ireland, France, Spain and America. She been an Environmental Arts Manager for a national Environmental Trust and undertaken a number of residencies producing public and other works with local communities in the UK.
'Dilys Jackson is one of Wales' most daring artistic explorers. The book, Dilys Jackson Sculptor, offers an insight into the humanity and passion which has always informed the making process of her elegant but austere abstractions'. Robert MacDonald
